In 1985, the Vision Mark Gonzales deck was the first legit skateboard I ever had. Prior to that I had a Nash Executioner that I had gotten for Christmas in 1984, but like I said, the Gonz deck was my first “legit” board.

Not until recently, did I discover that the iconic graphics for the Vision Mark Gonzales deck were created by artist Andy Takakjian. Check out this video that I came across, where Andy recalls his time at Vision. -Tim DCXX

Thanks for the info. It really brings back good memories. It was weird to read, because my first board was an executioner and my second was a Mark Gonzales too. After that, I had a lucero, slasher, bullet, jinx. Now I skate a Ray Underhill. The Gonzales was always my favorite. It got ruined in the rain in northern California. I sanded it down to natural wood then stained it and resharpied in the Mark Gonzales graphics. I sold it to a friend for more than I bought it for originally. But, I would buy it back for five times that much if I could . . .

Thank you for the post. I too have a 1985 Vision Mark Gonzales that I came across yesterday when cleaning my garage. I was never really a skater but more of a mediocre poser back in the day just wanting to fit in with my friends. So mine is in relatively good shape in comparison to a few that I have seen online. The only reason I have kept it all of these years is because my dad spent a grip on it back in the day and periodically likes to bring it up–so I love to bust it out for him when he is visiting:-) Lucky for me it does not take up much space in my life so I do not have a problem hanging on to it.
